The Opinionated Gamers Designer of the Year
The Opinionated Gamers has announced their favorite designer of 2021. "It’s hard to believe, but I’ve been writing Designer of the Year articles for almost 20 years now. As you can probably figure out from the opening paragraph, the idea is to identify which game designers had, in my opinion, the best calendar year in 2021 and to select one of them as my Designer of the Year (DotY). Again, not the best single game, but the best overall body of work from last year."

Reviews
Mr. Cabbagehead’s Garden (Meeple Mountain): “With only 15 turns, the game lasts exactly as long as it should. Turns go quickly, with each one presenting an interesting choice of both vegetables and garden placement options. Then, just as you’re getting comfortable with your choices, Mr. Cabbagehead goes on Holiday and those infuriating Neighbors come and wreck your plans.”

Methodologie: The Murder on the Links (The Opinionated Gamers): “It’s easy enough that even non-gamers should be able to pick it up; and this would also be a nice gift for a mystery novel lover that you know.”

Dice Forge (What’s Eric Playing): “Overall, I’m a big fan of Dice Forge, but I also find it a bit perplexing. Where was the dicebuilding revolution? What happened to it? I guess, as I mention elsewhere in the review, it just never really came around that way, and it makes me sad. There’s something really cool about this game, about just building up a bunch of click-clackey dice that have the faces you want, and I imagine there are a lot of applications for something like this.”
